Want to import a used car to Namibia in 2026? The biggest questions are always the same: Is the car allowed? What papers do I need? How do I ship it?
This page is a simple checklist. You can read it in 3 minutes and avoid the most common problems: wrong vehicle year, missing documents, and surprise port fees.
Need a quick quote to Namibia?
Tip: If you want CIF, tell us your destination port (not only “Namibia”).

Quick summary:
First, confirm the vehicle year/age rule with your Namibia clearing agent.
Second, prepare the main documents (invoice + vehicle info + Bill of Lading).
Third, choose shipping: RoRo (simple) or Container (more protection / good for multiple units).
Step 1 — Check if the car is allowed (age/year)
Many buyers talk about a “12-year age limit”. In practice, rules can change and the “age” can be calculated in different ways (manufacture year vs first registration date). So do this first:
Ask your clearing agent these 3 questions
- What is the current maximum vehicle age for my category?
- How do you calculate “age” (manufacture year or first registration)?
- Any special rules for commercial vans/trucks vs passenger cars?
If you want, send us the model + year + destination port. We can help you do a quick pre-check.
Step 2 — Prepare the documents (simple list)
For most shipments, these documents are the basics. Your agent may ask for more, but if you have these ready, you’ll move faster.
From seller / export side
- Commercial invoice (price, VIN, buyer name)
- Vehicle information (VIN/chassis, year, engine)
- Photos/videos (recommended for used cars)
From shipping / forwarder
- Bill of Lading (B/L)
- Packing list (for container)
- Booking + sailing schedule
Step 3 — Choose shipping: RoRo or Container?
Here’s the simplest way to choose:
| If you are… | Usually choose | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Buying 1 vehicle | RoRo | Simple booking and delivery |
| Buying multiple vehicles | Container | Better when you optimize space; more protection |
| Worried about handling/paint | Container | Less exposure if loaded & tied properly |
Step 4 — Avoid “surprise fees” at the port
Even if you choose CIF, many fees are still paid locally. Ask your clearing agent for a destination fee list before shipping.
Common destination charges
- Terminal/port handling
- Local agent/documentation fee
- Storage/demurrage (if delayed)
- Customs clearance, duties/taxes
Simple prevention
- Always write the exact destination port.
- Confirm included vs excluded in writing.
- Get photos/videos before loading (used cars).
